backing store conversion
ubeu9
hello all,
i've got a case open with Intewoven but they seem to be taking a long time to get back to me so i thought i would ask some of you my questions.
we are doing a conversion of a backing store on solaris from Teamsite 5.0.1sp2 to another solaris server running Teamsite 5.5.2sp4. our iwconvert tool is iwconvert: 5.5.2 Build 23679 Interwoven 20030813
my questions are as follows:
1) is this the latest iwconvert tool? i've looked on the support site and found no information.
2) i've run the convert GUI tool from the 5.5.2sp4 server but found that the process simply runs forever even though i set a time limit on it, and gives no errors. i end up having to kill the process. so the question is, does the GUI convert tool work? does one need to share mounts before running the GUI? the directions don't seem to indicate that procedure if one is using the GUI.
thanks much...

I have never used the GUI tool for backing store conversion. I prefer to use the CLTs.
IWOV support would be more credible to answer your first question. About the second question:
What documentation are you refering to ? On the support site, there a bunch of pdf files (best practices, etc) for upgrade and conversion. According to the conversion guide page 10, you need the mounts. I don't see any reason why this would be different for GUI tool v/s CLT. (If there is a point and click way to migrate, somebody tell me)
PS: Keyboard is mightier than the mouse !

thanks iwovGraduate, for your reply and sharing your opinion regarding the keyboard.
i've spent a week going through all the documentation on the support site for upgrades. while i'm comfortable using the CLT tools we have many branches and many editions that need to be converted and the GUI would allow us the do the conversion more efficiently, and with less chance of error than the CLT tools. typos are always a danger.
having said that, since interwoven created the GUI tools for backing store conversion it's safe to say there are others out there who see the benefit of using them.
