Not able to deploy files owned by someone else tha
kapil_aggarwal
Hi All,
I am trying to deploy a set of files using filelist deployment and also without it.
But am not able to deploy files other than the ones owned by a particular user.
This user is being shown as the
id=0 server: User(<user Id>) in the receiver log file.
and it is not showing my user Id there.
I am working on unix
can someone help...
regards,
kapil.

What version of OD?
Is OD installed as 'root' or as 'non-root'?
Can you provide a copy of the OD config file you are using *and* an example of how it is being invoked?

the version of OD is 5.6.0
it is installed as root.
Also in the deploy.cfg file there is one entry
Deploy.bootStrapUserName: <userId_X>
Only the files owned by <userId_X> are getting deployed.
i am using the foll. config file for OD:
<deploymentConfiguration >
<logRules maxBytes="32Mb" level="verbose" >
</logRules>
<localNode host="atlsdcg1" />
<replicationFarmSet >
<replicationFarm name="MYFARMNAME" quorum="" >
<nodeRef useNode="MyLocalHost" transactional="no" >
</nodeRef>
</replicationFarm>
</replicationFarmSet>
<definition name="MYDEFINITIONNAME" >
<source >
<sourceFilesystem area="$sourceAreaPath^" filelist="$listFileName^" >
<pathSpecification >
<path name="." >
</path>
<filters >
<excludePattern regex="\.dcr$" >
</excludePattern>
</filters>
</pathSpecification>
</sourceFilesystem>
</source>
<target useReplicationFarm="MYFARMNAME" >
<targetFilesystem area="/opt/interwoven/OpenDeployNG/tmp" >
</targetFilesystem>
</target>
</definition>
<deployment transactional="no" >
<execDeploymentTask useDefinition="MYDEFINITIONNAME" >
<deployNRun >
<dnrDeployment location="source" when="after" triggerPoint="transfer" state="success" >
<script cmd="/opt/build/temp/test.sh" as="" where="/opt/build/temp" async="no" >
</script>
</dnrDeployment>
</deployNRun>
</execDeploymentTask>
</deployment>
</deploymentConfiguration>
and it is invoked by a perl script that will pass the required arguments to it by the foll. code:
my $res=`/opendeployNG/bin/iwodstart <Name of config file> -k sourceAreaPath=$area -k listFileName=$fileName 2>&1`;

Okay - that looks reasonably in order - you are passing in the area and the name of the filelist.
Can you provide an actual example of the area being passed in along with the actual contents of the filelist - and indicate which files do/don't get deployed?

the area I am passing is a workarea inside the teamsite:
/default/main/abc.com/WORKAREA/Development
and the filelist is:
/opt/build/temp/files_11232.txt
and its contents are:
images/a.html
images/winter.html
images/summer.html
and the owners of these files on the source server are:
a.html <user_id>
winter.html <user_id>
summer.html <user2_id>
where <user_id> is the id for which there is an entry in the deploy.cfg as the bootStrapUser
Deploy.bootStrapUserName: <user_id>
It is giving the error Deployment completed with error and all the files are not deployed. Yet it is able to create the folder images in the destination folder.
but when the contents of the filelist (/opt/build/temp/files_11232.txt) are:
images/a.html
images/winter.html
it is able to successfully deploy.
The case is same if I try with some other folder on the source server that is not in the teamsite area.
please help,
kapil.

Hmm - can you do a '/bin/ls -l' of those three files?
I'm curious whether the files are just owned differently or whether the access rights on them are so restrictive that *only* the owner has access to them.
Also, if possible - could you post (as an attachment) the micro log associated with the deployment of those three files.

The entries in the fileList /opt/appl/cheetah/cms/fileList/files_22377.txt are:
images/a.html
images/trans.gif
images/winter.html
ls -l gives:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 cc945923 users 521 Sep 15 13:33 a.html
-rw-rw-r-- 1 cc941737 users 43 Oct 6 16:22 trans.gif
-rw-rw-r-- 1 cc945923 users 398 Sep 13 15:35 winter.html
It worked for the two files a.html and winter.html, but failed in case of these three files.

file didn't get attached last time
sending that after changing extn.

Are you sure the Receiver process is owned by root?
If you can do so - please post (as an attachment) the Receiver-side micro log for the same deployment you just posted the BaseServer-side log.
The lines of significance in the logfile you just posted are, I believe:
--------
ERROR: Failed applying access to (/opt/interwoven/OpenDeployNG/tmp/kapTest/images/trans.gif.iwtmp)
ERROR: Could not get file data(./images/trans.gif).
--------
I'm not positive - but I think the second one is a bit of a red-herring (implying that it couldn't *read* the file data from the source) - and that it's the first one (not being able to *apply* access rights to the target) which is significant.
From your previous response - this one file is owned by a different user than the one who is running the deployment, but they all share the same group ownership and all have read access for the group and for 'everyone' - so not being able to read the data on the source side is unlikely to be the issue here. Preserving the ACLs and setting them on the receiving side is much more likely to be the issue and that would generally only be an issue if the Receiver is running as non-root.

the logs for these errors were same in that file.
sorry I removed those log files to do some more testing on that file
so can't send that.
will recreate it for logs
