Changing owner at the branch level

Hi,

We want to change the owner of a branch. This branch was created using local user account, but now we want to use domain user as a owner.

We are planning to use iwidmap CLT to change the ownership. Because we thought that this is simpler way to change? But would like to know if there are any implications with this CLT. Will staging be affected?

Another suggestion from interwoven is to create a new branch with right user account and to copy all the files from old branch. But in this scenario we would loose all previous conent in staging and will have to resubmit all files. So, any suggestion on these approaches will help us.

I would be very cautious about using iwidmap for this purpose. It's a great tool, and I use it often when migrating content, but I doubt that it's appropriate for this situation. iwidmap can't be applied to an individual branch. It affects every asset within the backing store. So it's only appropriate to use iwidmap in this instance in situations where that local user is not being used at all any more. At least, not in the store that contains the branch in question.

Although, that does lead me to an interesting, if somewhat convoluted, idea. Perhaps you could use iwmigrate to migrate that branch to another, temporary store. Then run iwidmap against that new store, and migrate it back into the original store. I don't honestly know if that would work or not, but it might be worth trying out (on a copy of the store, initially, in case it failes). If it works, you'll have all of the editions, file versions, etc, intact. It will just be modified such that the local user will have been globally replaced, in that branch only, with the domain user.

If you go with something like that, I'd be curious to hear how it went.
