Modified By attribute

Hi,

I have a quick question. Is there a TS command that I can run on a DCR in order to change the "Modified By" attribute (ie. assign different username)?
I am running TS on an UNIX box. And this attribute must be TeamSite specific because the UNIX filesystem does not maintain any "Modified By" attribute.
Any help will be graetly apperciated, I am a bit stuck because I can't figure out a solution for this one.

you are right it's held in teamsite, but any file write operation will do the trick

 touch /iwmnt/default/main/branch/WORKAREA/area/file.html

Or, even less distructive that touch, which modifies the timestamp:

iwextattr -s some_dummy_var=some_value vpath_to_file
iwextattr -d some_dummy_var vpath_to_file

Set and then clear a meaningless extended attribute. The file's date/time stamp is unchanged (meaning OD won't deploy it, for instance), but the last modified by is set to the user running those commands.

Thanks for a quick answer. Touch does the work but the way I understand it it sets the "Modified By" parameter to the current user. In my situation I have process that goes through number of DCRs (Modified By various users) and does a small change to them. After it is done it is suppoused to reset the "Modified By" values on the DCRs to what they were. So it needs to be able to assign various "userids" to "Modified By". I don't think "touch" does it.

Same goes for "iwextattr" it des not allow for the selection of the user to assign to the "Modified By" field.

Your suggestions just handle resetting "Modified By" to the current user and not assingning a user to "Modified By". Or am I mistaken?

Ah. That wasn't clear in your original question.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no published API for setting the last modified by attribute. The system generates it dynamically based on accesses to the file.

If you're running under Unix, then, assuming you're running with root privledges, you could accomplish by sticking a "su targetuser -c " in front of the commands you use to "mark" the file. If you're on Windows, you're out of luck, as there isn't a good equivalent of the su command.

If you're running this through a workflow - use an externaltask owned by the user who should be set as the Modified By user - and follow the steps previously outlined within the externaltask script.

Fish, what version were you talking about on the external task owned by a user? In 6.5 it says External Tasks are Executed by SYSTEM and not the user. I'm just checking to see if they changed this functionality.

Did anyone ever find a solution to this. I have the same problem. the last task in our workflows is an external task that modifies the file. Hence the 'Modified by' parameter always shows as 'SYSTEM' for all files and is therefore meaningless. A command that I could include in my Perl Script that set the Modified By parameter would be a perfect solution. Any plans Interwoven ???

I gave up... What I was modifying was the EA's to just store the workflow and who the last approver was. Now I just add it to the comments which does not chage the modified by on the file.

If you had submitted the changes before the touch, run get latest. If you had modified files in the workarea, you are hosed. There is no way to get rid of the touch changes without losing the pre-touch changes as well.

Hey, but if my file is a new one and submitted just once then how to do it ?

Do a compare of current version to what is in Staging. If you cannot afford to lose those changes you are hosed.
