Template based email
Sid1
Hi,
I am trying to configure the template based email task. As per the example shown on page 110 of Workflow Developer's Guide, the email task in my worflow looks something like this :
<externaltask lock = "f" name = "MailAuthor" owner = "__INSERT__($sOwner);" retry = "f" start = "f" description = "__INSERT__($uDescription);">
<areavpath v = "__INSERT__($cArea_VPath);"/>
<successors>
<successorset description = "Go to Review">
<succ v = "Review"/>
</successorset>
</successors>
__INSERT__( iw_get_mail_cmd('iwsend_mail','','acc_cms@yahoo.com.sg') );
<variables>
<variable key = "iw_mailbody_pt" value = "reviewer_iwmailbody.tpl"/>
<variable key = "iw_mailheader_pt" value = "reviewer_iwmailheader.tpl"/>
</variables>
<activation>
<or>
<pred v = "TestArea"/>
</or>
</activation>
</externaltask>
But, upon testing this through the workflow, I get the following error message at the instatiation of the workflow :
'Unrecognised element activation in task MailAuthor'.
Do you have any idea on this ? Also, I feel that the following command should be included in this task :
<command v=’c:\iw-home/local/config/wft/solutions/iw_solution_email.ipl -t "Approver"’/>
But from the workflow builder, I cant really add this to the email task. Apparantly, its only limited to the External Task.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks!

1) The variables section has to come *after* the activation section - that's the cause of the "unrecognized element" message - this was a bug in several versions of WFB - not sure if/when it finally got fixed (*)
2) To do the command part correctly - if you're using WFB - you need use an External Task *not* an Email Task - because the latter, in WFB is only meant to support iwsend_servlet_mail.ipl (default) and iwsend_mail.ipl (option, better than default IMO). If you use an External Task - you need to set the command up yourself.
(*) If you're using WFB, you're basically asking for problems - If you search the forums for "WFB" and/or "workflow builder" you'll get some idea of what you're up against using it.
Also - for the future, when you make a post like this - please remember to include the version information (including SPs and patches) for TeamSite and (in this case) WFB - as well as the platform being used (WNT, W2K, W2K3, Solaris7, Solaris8, Solaris9, etc.)

Hi,
Thanks for the advice.
Understand that WFB is not the best tool around, but we need it to demostrate the graphical image of the workflow.
In any case, as adviced by you, I have changed the email task to external task. The code looks something like this now :
<externaltask lock = "f" name = "EmailTemplate" owner = "__INSERT__($sOwner);" retry = "f" start = "t" description = "Email template">
<areavpath v = "__INSERT__($cArea_VPath);"/>
<successors>
<successorset description = "Go to EndTask">
<succ v = "EndTask"/>
</successorset>
</successors>
<command v = "__INSERT__($com);"/>
__INSERT__($iw_selected_files); __INSERT__( iw_get_mail_cmd('iwsend_mail','','acc_cms@yahoo.com.sg') );
<variables>
<variable key = "iw_mailbody_pt" value = "reviewer_iwmailbody.tpl"/>
<variable key = "iw_mailheader_pt" value = "reviewer_iwmailheader.tpl"/>
</variables>
</externaltask>
In the above code, line '__INSERT__( iw_get_mail_cmd('iwsend_mail','','acc_cms@yahoo.com.sg') );' is being added by me manually as the WFB does not allow me to do that through the WFB when using the 'external task'. Do you know how can I do that from the WFB ? The problem is that if I do manual changes, when I open it in WFB, all these manual changes are deleted.
Even with the above code, I am getting the following when I try to push some content into the workflow :
'Unrecognised element command in task EmailTemplate' .
I am using the following system :
TS 6.5 running on Win2k platform.
Thanks!

Find out what version of WFB / WFB Server you have - including any SPs and patches - and contact Support.
If they don't have an upgrade for you to use that fixes the logical ordering / syntax issues - there isn't anything you can do but edit the files manually - and thus you'll understand why more and more folks really don't find WFB worth using (it's more of a sales tool than a development tool at this point)

If you need a graphical depiction of the workflow, just do it in Visio. The time you'll save not **** around with WFB will be amply paid back.

I see what's wrong in your task, you don't need to manually add your own command, just type your command to your #com, and use it in the WFB.
Something like this is enough: if $com="$iw_home/local/config/wft/solution/iw_solution_email.ipl";
<externaltask lock = "f" name = "EmailTemplate" owner = "__INSERT__($sOwner);" retry = "f" start = "t" description = "Email template">
<areavpath v = "__INSERT__($cArea_VPath);"/>
<successors>
<successorset description = "Go to EndTask">
<succ v = "EndTask"/>
</successorset>
</successors>
<command v = "__INSERT__($com);"/>
__INSERT__($iw_selected_files);
<variables>
<variable key = "iw_mailbody_pt" value = "reviewer_iwmailbody.tpl"/>
<variable key = "iw_mailheader_pt" value = "reviewer_iwmailheader.tpl"/>
</variables>
</externaltask>
