launchpad problem ..help!

hi,

I need help on troubleshoot a strange problem that occured last week regarding the launchpad java applet. My system is currently running Teamsite 5.5.2 SP 4 on Windows 2000 Server SP3. When trying to edit the a file in the workarea, the following message pop up :

( Client machine running on Sun JRE 1.4.2 )
Error dowloading file includes/menu.js from TeamSite server:
Error receiving file transfer result from 'http://tsserver/iw-bin/iwfileupdownload.cgi':
java.io.IOException - Server return HTTP response code :500 from URL: http://tsserver/iw-bin/iwfileupdownload.cgi

( running on Other JVM )
Error dowloading file includes/menu.js from TeamSite server:
Error receiving file transfer result from 'http://tsserver/iw-bin/iwfileupdownload.cgi':
File tsserver:80//iw-bin/iwfileupdownload.cgi not found.

The error message will also popped up when i tried to import files into the workarea , which also involve the launchpad applet. Strangely the applet can edit some other files, in other word, not all files is uneditable. Anyone has any clue as why this is occuring? I tried to search forum but found nothing useful. FYI, i didn't modify the original CGI that come bundled with TeamSite 5.5.2.

Please provide help a.s.a.p, many thanks and appreciation.

What have you done to combat this issue so far, iwreset -a or ??? Sounds like the IW web engine is having some issues.

LaunchPad calls a CGI to transfer the files, and the web server that
runs the CGI is aborting with a 500 HTTP error code. This is a bit of
a general error, so it doesn't tell us much about the root cause.

You said some files can be edited successfully... what do those
files have in common?

Not sure why it would abort .. you said it started happening last week,
so do you remember changing anything then?

You might need to contact support, so they can dig deeper into the
problem and your environment.

I had restarted the services numerous time using iwreset, iwreset -ui and iwreset -a , or restarted the services thru win2k services , or even restarted the OS, all didn't do anything. The problem still persists.

well i have some files in the workarea, js ( javascript ) ,html and asp files. Most of the non-template html file can be edited , except for few .js and .html files. Not sure why. For example, i had this menu.js file that can't be edited, if u empty the content, then it can be edited. In addtional to that , file import also *not* working.

Well last thing I did to the server was rebuilding the webapps using "install_webapps.ipl -f -i", and my colleague was modifying some workflow file ( .wft ) . All the Perl script in iw-bin is still original , as I didn't modify them.

Below are some log extracted from 'iw-home/iw-webd/logs/error.log' :

By the way , my system is Win2k SP4 , TeamSite 5.5.2 SP4, not Win2k Sp3 , TS 5.5.2 Sp3 as i mentioned before. Will patching it to SP6 help solve this problem ?

Here's the part that worries me:

Unless this is a typo on your part - it looks like part of the system believes it installed as c:/iw-home and another part believes it is installed as c:/iw/iw-home.

That needs to be cleared up first.
Secondly, make sure that everyone has read/execute access to whichever path is correct for IWHOME (it's been a while since I've worked on Windows [thank ****] but I recall there being seemingly bizarre behavior when some users do not have read/execute access up to and through the TeamSite installation directory).

No, don't upgrade - instead, contact support to see
why the system is looking for c:\iw\iw-home if that
doesn't exist....

It may be something simple like a bad path in iw.cfg,
or a bad registry setting, but it's better to fix that before
applying a TeamSite Service Pack.

Regarding the (C:\iw\iw-home ) problem, I did a search using the string on IW-HOME folder and found that most of the executable files in iw-home\bin and cgi files in httpd\iw-bin has the "C:\iw\iw-home" string hardcoded . According to Support, this is the default value of the iw-home folder if the file couldn't locate the actual iw-home. I am having some doubt about this, can anyone verify?

Anyway , after putting in the latest Service Pack 6 , all this problem seems to go away ...no more applet problem . Roll back the SP , the problem surface again. My support pointed out the problem was on the service pack : TeamSite Service Pack 4 cannot fully support Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, that where he suggested me to put in Service Pack 6. Since this is my development server, I will put in the service pack 6 and observe before i migrate the new service pack to production server.
