DataDeploy of Greek text into Oracle
mmb
Hi (TS 552, Solaris, DD 552, Oracle 8.1)
We are having problems datadeploying some Greek text that is stored as Metadata in teamSite into an Oracle table.
When datadeploy attempts to deploy the metadata into the table the folowing is reported in the logfile...
Updating WLCS_DOCUMENT_METADATA
Parameter Index: 1, Value: ????????? ???????, Converting '????????? ???????' to
VARCHAR
Column: VALUE, field: value, Index: 1,Converting '????????? ???????' to VARCHAR
The ????? is whats supposed to be the Greek text.
Is this a problem with the DataDeploy or Oracle configuration? or both?
The encoding of the Oracle database is set to NLS_CHARACTERSET = WE8ISO8859P1 this doesnt cover Greek text so I think thats the problem.
Any ideas? Previous experience?
Many thanks
- mark

We had some similar issue, with Chinese characters from tamplates to Oracle.
Turned out on our side it was the VFE plugin editor, not storing the characters
due to incorrect encoding.
We were assured by IW Engineering that DD dows not know nor care about
what language thecontent uses.
First thing we did was to verify that we could take Chinese content & drop it into
Oracle with a straight SQL call. Can you do that ? (With Greek of course)

Thanks for your reply Andy..
I managed to insert some of the Greek text into Oracle via a sql insert statement.
The row was inserted correctly but when a select is done on that row the following is displayed..
TS_PAGETITLE

NN;N;N7N=N9N:N-O
I think that this might be a problem with both the Oracle configration and Datadeploys ability to read multibyte extended attribute text...

we've got a similar issue here. we're running both Oracle and Teamsite with UTF8 encoding. When you set the extended attributes "iwextattr" then there is also a parameter where you can specify if it's supposed to be UTF8 encoded.
