saving dcrs with a .dcr extension

Jamik

We're implementing TeamSite 6.1 at my company and one thing we want to do is filter the Work In Progress portlet to to only show generated files and not the dcr. Well to do this we need to have the dcrs save with the file extension .dcr. I've looked through the documentation Interwoven provides for TeamSite 6.1 (which is horrible in my opinion) and couldn't find the answer there. So I was wondering if anyone else is saving their dcrs with an extension and how to go about doing so.

In general, a user can save a DCR with any name / extension they desire.
It is possible to configure auto-naming within FormsPublisher (a.k.a. templating) - I believe this is covered in the documentation, but I haven't looked as I haven't had to deal with that so I'm not positive.
It is also possible to control the naming of DCRs via workflow processes - in which case you have complete control over the name / extension of the DCR.

I believe .dcr is used by Shockwave as a extension for Shockwave movies - so, if you have Shockwave installed on your server you might want to choose a different extension - otherwise .dcr should be fine.

I haven't used TS 6.1 yet, but if FormAPI is still available that might be another option to consider.

Here's an example for a Form API check.

You could put this in some global script if it applies everywhere

function checkDCRName(name) {
 if (name.match(/\.dcr$/) ) {
    return (true);
 }

 alert('Your file should have an extension of .dcr\nIE filename.dcr');
 return (false);
}

// --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler ("onSaveNameSpecified", checkDCRName);

If you can auto generate a name based on some rules, it makes things even easier for your users, though it isnt always practical.
