Invalid workflow registry.

System

Apparently a bulk load (dozens of workflows) was running overnight when the backing store was frozen for backup and apparently this bulk load process does not handle that gracefully (starts throwing rpc connection messages and other stuff). As a result today I see this:

[520] > iwgetwfobj
Invalid workflow registry.

What does it mean and how do I correct it?

iwserver: 5.5.2 Build 17976 Interwoven 20030323

Todo list in UI shows this:

An error has occured trying to obtain the todo list. The message returned by the server is: I/O error

My guess is they'll have you completely remove the workflow backing store as I don't think they ever created a tool for fixing it (i.e. there's no iwfsck / iwfsfix for the workflow backing store AFAIK).

method for removing old workflows from TeamSite. The following procedure can be used to locate older workflows and delete them. Use iwgetwfobjs to return a list of all workflow jobs. Output this to a file and parse this file for the date. Convert the date using standard perl modules to the format you are most comfortable with. Do a data comparison. Based on the results of the data comparison, get the workflow job id of that job. Use iwrmjob to delete the job.

HAM - you're method for doing this revolves around using iwgetwfobjs - which, if you read the original post, is not working because of a workflow backing store corruption of some sort - so it doesn't make that much sense.

Also - you could probably use iwqueryjobs more effectively than parsing the complete output of iwgetwfobj.

How does one go about locating and then deleting the workflow backing store if you think your's is corrupt?

Locating: it is in iw-store/workflow

deleting ? well rm-rf will delete (on unix) what TS will do after that ? I have no clue.

Maybe a good idea to test it out on your dev server first ?

Thanks for the help. I will give this a try.

I do not know that I consider my answer "help" but test it on your dev server first.

this is a big gun, don't shoot yourself.....

I will definitly try it on my dev server first. Do you know if I delete the workflow backing store and restart my TS box (Windows), will TS recreate the backing automatically?

That was why I caveat the step by I do no tknwo what TS will do.

I have removed the backingstore completely and TS recovers nicely so I ASSUME
that if you remove the WF directory (or everything under) it should recreate.

It is possible that the journal file is corrupt since that keeps a lot of the state information
but more is kept in the d0 directory structure.

Good luck, post what you did.

Call Smitty if it fails.

Ok...I deleted the workflow backing store, rebooted and anything came back up. But this didn't fix my problem. I am not thinking that my problem is not related to the workflow backing store.

Here's my problem and I should probably start a new thread and if I need to I will later. Here goes...

I am trying to get TS 6.1 installed and configure for an end of the year upgrade and I am seeing some funny things with the My Tasks portlet. When I create a new job the job appears in my tasks portlet fine, but when I send the job/task on to an author the Task Description does not show up for the author. The job is there but the Task Description is blank. And even when the job comes back to me, the editor, the Task Description is also blank for me now. I have attached screen shots of that I am seeing.

Has anyone else seen this? Am I am missing something?

Thanks,
Dustin

Well, they're different tasks. Is there a reason that you expect the description to remain the same? I would expect the job description to remain constant (unless some external task modifies it) but not the task description.

Take a look at the WFT file, and see what's being put into the description attribute for the various tasks.

I'm new to WF. How do I look at the WFT file and where would it be?

Check iw-home/local/config/wft/available_templates.cfg for the paths for the various wfts that you have enabled.

Dwayne

I can't tell you exactly which file, because it's going to be specific to your environment. The file iwhome/local/config/wft/available_templates.cfg maps WFT (workflow template) files to various combinations of branches/users/job types. From that, you should be able to figure out which WFT file is being invoked for your situation.

However, given that you're "new to WF" I don't know how much good it will do you. I certainly wouldn't recommend making any changes to this file until you've had a great deal more training on configuring workflow.

Ok...after looking through the WFT files I think I see what I am looking to do. Does anyone know how I can add the Job Description field the Tasks Portlet on CCSTD. It currently displays the Task Description but want I would like to display is the Job Description. Any ideas?

I'm not sure how you would add the field to the portlet - but you could change the WFT so that any task which doesn't otherwise have a description contains:

description="__INSERT__(iw_desc);"

That way the job description will be used for the task description and will then show up in the existing portlet.

Good deal...I think that will work. I will give it a try.

I'm facing the same annoyance (sort of painful for the user to have 7 tasks in the portlet that all say "Group Review" and nothing else). The UI Customisation Guide covers how to alter the portlets, but I haven't looked yet to see if that particular change is supported. I was planning on using pretty much the same approached that Smitty suggested, except I'll probably use the task name then the description - e.g.

description = "Group Review: __TAG__('iw_desc');"

Migrateduser

Oops, it was ghoti who suggested that, not Smitty. I guess I should go get another cup of coffee.

Hopefully, they'll both be flattered by the mistake Smiley Wink

Smitty might be flattered - I'm closer to being flattend - on the floor LOL ;-)
