dynamically determine number of generated files
cliffhanger
Hi,
Is it possible to dynamically determine number of generated files from the workflow?
Thanks

I think you need more information than that.
A workflow, in and of itself, does not know (or care) anything about generated files unless you've explicitly coded some aspect of page generation into the workflow *or* associate such information directly with the DCRs to be processed *or* if you push everything into a DB and perform a query on it.
It's possible to generate manifest files when you perform page generation and one could look through those for each DCR processed to determine the number of files generated (I, personally, have not used this feature so I can't provide any real details here).
It's also possible to have your process add EAs to the DCR for each page generated from the DCR and then to be able to access that information via iwextattr.
So - is it possible - yes. Is your question complete - no.

What do you mean by "number of generated files?" The number of files attached to the workflow (easy)? The number of files attached to the workflow which were generated via templating (harder, but do-able)? or the total number of files in the workarea generated via templating (a lot of work and hard on the server)? Or something else I haven't thought of?
A little detail is needed to answer your question.

Hi,
In the workflow we add EAs for generated files and associate that with the DCR. At this moment, we can associate multiple generated files with a DCR, that's not a problem as long as we hard code the generated file path/values. What I am trying to do is generate multiple files based on the number of replicants in a DCR. Any idea/suggestion?
Does it make sense yet?

Johnny
few things
how are you producing the files?
If you are using iwostream to create your extra files (recommended), you could then use
iwpt_compile
with the
-manifest
option to generate your files.
-manifest provides an xml file listing all files that were generated. Parse that and Bob's your uncle!
Search the forums for manifest and you'll see a few more posts on it.
