Licensing and roles question
System
Can power user accts (editors & masters in our case) be setup as authors also? im currently assuming this counts as 2 licenses, but would like to make sure im not wasting licenses.

In general - assume that any entry in any conf/role file constitutes the usage of a license (exceptions being "root", "Administrator").
In specific - check with your Interwoven Sales representative and/or look over any sales/licensing documentation you have to see if aspects of this were spelled out.

ok thanks...disappointing that a power user acct cant be setup as an author also for testing purposes, but that was what i was expecting.

I didn't say it couldn't - I just said *assume* it couldn't (without using up an additional license slot) until you find out otherwise.

OK, I have a very different opinion than Fish on this topic. If I have 20 power user licenses & 100 author licenses, I can have up to 120 people in the author.uid file (20 power users and 100 new authors). When I was with IW, that was always how we positioned it. THings may have changed but I really doubt it.

hopefully IW can respond to this thread...the licensing docs i have are extremely vague and dont specifically cover this issue

Sunil does post to this, however you may want to contact someone from IW directly. Mike Svatek or Sunil would be good candidates to call.

We have 3 TS User License price points:: Technical, Business and Casual. Technical Users (aka Power, Editor, Admin) can also log in as an author. Business users cannot assume the roles licensed for Technical Users.

Can you give a little more classifiaction to the three levels of licensing? I am assuming that these 3 classes of licensing do not correspond directly with the TeamSite roles..... One entry in the editor.uid file for example may be technical while another is simply a reviewer? Are all authors casual? Thanks for any help you can provide.
