Clean up attributes

We customized our cleanup to remove certain attributes. However we want to enhance this option and remove all attributes that contain a colon( Smiley Happy

because they will not work when we generate our xml file. These attributes get created when we try to paste excel tables into our vfe and the attribute names are never the same so we can't just add a list to our cleanup. Does anyone know how to generically remove all attributes that contain a colon?

I'm not sure if that's doable in VF or not...Maybe someone else can answer that. But, if it isn't (which I suspect), how about this for an alternative? Use regex's in your PT to eliminate the "offensive" attributes. I am assuming that you have a PT because you said you "generate" XML. Is that correct?

We do have a PT that generates the xml file, but our PT just takes everything in the vfe and put it between <value> tags. I'm not sure how I would eliminate the colon when we're just dumping all vfe's html into the xml file value tag? Can you give me an example and then maybe it will make more sense.

Well, assume your vfe field is accessed via 'dcr.vfe_field' The following bit of Perl should do the trick (Note: I haven't tested this, its off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure its right):

Two things that might cause trouble with this, that you may need to play with:
1) Does VFE put any whitespace between attribute names and values and the equal sign? (I've assumed "no" in the code above)
2) Does VFE use single or double quotes for attribute values? (I've assumed double quotes above)

Finally, and this may be where things could get a little sticky and require more effort, this code will strip off any non-attribute that looks like an attribute with a : in it, e.g. if someone were to type:
text="This: is the text"
somewhere, it would get stripped out. If you're concerned about that, you'll need to take some time to break the field down, make sure you've only got tags, then find attributes, then do the necessary check.

Of course, it would be much simpler if the "clean" function of VFE would allow you to do this at that level.
