Custom iwextattr CGI

Ottawa_IWOV

All-

I am interested in knowing if anyone has written an iwextattr custom application/CGI/JSP that allows users to edit extended attributes, and set extended attributes.

Bascially, the OOTB set/edit metadata views do not meet our needs so we are going custom.

Maybe a skeleton application that can be extended?

Any help that people may be able to provide on this would be well received and appreciated.

Best regards.

Lucas,

One idea you might entertain is to use TeamSite Templates/Forms to collect the metadata you want to set, and then use FormAPI methods to invoke a script to actually set the values, via the command iwextattr.

When the form opens, it can call the same command to retrieve the values and display them.

This approach requires less "from scratch" work compared to building something totally new for form controls and validation, etc, that TS templates already provide.

I wrote a CGI custom menu item some years ago (4.5) that would let users change, delete and create extended attributes - it was actually pretty easy but I never implemented the combo box to let users select from known extended attribute key names instead of copying/typing one in. It sits on some modules that you probably don't want, but it could at least give you a skeleton. Again, this should be out of the box functionality...

Hey JimmyFat,

If you have an example and don't mind sharing it, that would be awaesome.

Thanks for the insights.
