iw_param

artor

Hi,

I am using the following code and I have to pass the associative array to my included page

<iw_include pt='templatedata/mediacentre/components/news1.tpl'>
<![CDATA[
$iw_param{page} = %first;

]]>
</iw_include>

But it is not working so is there any other way to pass an array but i don't want to use iw_iterative approach.
Please if anybody knows let me know.

Regards

try using a slash infront of your variable to pass it by reference.

<iw_include pt='templatedata/mediacentre/components/news1.tpl'>
<![CDATA[
$iw_param{page} =\%first;

]]>
</iw_include>

Remember to de reference the variable when accessing it.

my %page = %$iw_arg{page};

I did try this but it doesn't work. gives error.

so what is the error?

have tried to compile the template and run it?

iwpt_compile.ipl -ocode test.ipl

familarize yourself with iwpt_compile.ipl

-ocode will give you more explicit clues as to what is wrong.

Hi John,

Its really hard to capture the error because I have nested tpl files and one of them keeping perl code inside iw_perl tag. and directory structure is also not same.
So If i go and run iwpt_compile.tpl in the following way from my root template

iwpt_compile.ipl -pt news.tpl -iw_pt-dcr ../data/news8.dcr -iw_include-location .

it throws the error of that

<ERROR>
Could not open presentation template: ./templatedata/newsrelease/components/newsindex.tpl
</ERROR>

this newsindex.tpl is my nested tpl. so its hard to capture the output.

You should probably use a real file system path (/.../.../...) rather than just '.' for the -iw_include-location parameter.

Thanks now iwpt_compile.ipl works ok and debugging becomes more easy.

I am getting following error once i pass the associative array in iw_param.

Name "TeamSite: Smiley Tongue

T:lithiumiw_xml_generated_0::first" used only once: possible typo at ./a2.ipl line 2795.

Any idea what does that mean?

Have you used the -ocode flag?
Have you then run the output through the Perl debugger and/or examined the generated code to try and debug it?

HI ghoti,

Yes i used -ocode flag with a2.ipl file which generates the code inside a2.ipl file and then through perl debugger i run a2.ipl file and came across the error I above posted. I have thought iw_param doesn't support but I am not sure??

what happens if you grep 'first' from a2.ipl? How many references do you see for it?

Hi ghoti,

I have seen two references and it says could not process the included page (included tpl). and throw this error

Name "TeamSite: Smiley Tongue

T:lithiumiw_xml_generated_0::first" used only once: possible typo at ./a1.ipl line 2795.

<ERROR>
Could not process template: /iwmnt/default/main/AEMediaCentre/en/WORKAREA/Content/templatedata/mediacentre/facts/presentation/factd.tpl
</ERROR>

Try debugging like this: iwpt_compile ... -ocode ****.ipl; ****.ipl

In the included page I am just using this code to retrieve my associative array
my %page=%$iw_arg{page};
foreach(keys %page){
print $page{$_};
iwpt_output("STAREXAM ".$page{$_});
}

Well, at this point the only way I could help further would be to have all the code in front of me so I could reproduce the problem and debug it - but ... I'm not volunteering to do that - sorry.
Maybe someone else will be able to provide some insight, or maybe you'll figure it out some other way.
The only thing that stands out in what you posted is that you're attempting to pass a hash structure through the params object and I'm not sure you can do that. I think you might have to decompose the hash into scalar values first - but I'm not sure.

Good luck.

Thanks Ghoti to reply and good feedback .Actually I checked from different ways to pass hash array into iw_param and i belive it is not supported, I have alternative the same way iterating an array and pass each value.
