Parentless Child Lookup

Hi.
I have a vb6 application that I want to set the Client (Custom1) after I find my Matter (Custom2). How do I programmatically set the Client (Custom1) like Desksite does using the 'parentlesschildlookup' reg key?

Assuming that, in your app, you're implementing the IManExt.Custom2LookupCmd Object to display the custom2 lookup table, so that the end-user may select a value from this table, you may then use the following code example to get the parent after the child value has been selected.

i've tried to use this code, but i keep getting the dialog to open up and give a message saying "could not get database(s) collection", and then having it close on me. What could i be missing?

I am attempting to import a document by filling in the profile fields by using SetAttributeByID on an iManDocument object. We have Parentless Child lookup enabled, and I am specifying a valid value for the child item (Custom2), but the checkin of the document fails indicating that the custom2 value is invalid. How can I find the Custom1 value for the Custom2? Using GetAttributeById does not actually return an attribute that has a Parent, and I cannot use the SearchCustomAttributes command on the child object (custom 2 and 30 not supported).
