Open Deploy and proxies
System
Environment: TeamSite 5.5.2, Solaris 8, OpenDeploy 5.5.1, and OpenDeploy 5.6.
We have several new servers coming online in 3 different geographical locations. At the same time, we are consolidating two TeamSite instances in one of these locations.
Location A has 3 servers and our TeamSite server. Location B has 4 more servers, location C has 4 more.
Unfortunately the servers in location A cannot talk to B or C without going through a proxy. Would this be something that we would take care of in say, an apache http.conf? Or is there something in the odbase and odrcvr, as well as odnodes files that we would put in to define this? Normally we just put in the server location directly, and the port numbers.
Thanks,
Carol

A proxy is generally what a web server would use - which would affect http / https traffic and would probably be configured in the http.conf file..
A firewall is generally what might affect OpenDeploy - which uses TCP/IP to communicate between base server and receiver - and, especially if the firewall uses NAT [Network Address Translation] - you would need to account for this in the odbase.xml, odrcvr.xml and/or the deployment configuration file(s).
Without knowing more about your environment and/or the people who are maintaining it - it's kind of difficult to know what is meant by "the servers in location A cannot talk to B or C without going through a proxy" - all I can suggest is that you at least make sure your network folks are able to get their hands on the OD manuals so that maybe they can help figure out what needs to be done.

The reason the locations can't see each other has something to do with the routing table. I'm not a networking person, I honestly know only the very basics.
Fortunately we have lines of communication open with networking and infrastructure, so we can probably get this resolved quickly.
Thanks,
Carol

It sounds like there is one (or more) firewall(s) involved here - and they're probably using NAT
I believe there is reasonable documentation within the OD manuals regarding the configuration of OD with respect to firewalls and NAT - I suggest you review the manuals and talk to the network folks as you will need to work with them to get everything working.
