Visualformat with replicant

AndyJ

Hi,

I have the issue when modify the DCT. It looks like the VisualFormat is not function. I checked the max replicant which are sufficient for current 26 of 50 rows. I cannot replicant with the new rows in the DCT. Any idea?

Thanks

Not sure if this is the issue, but can you make the VFE a callout instead of inline, or at least try that to see if VFE is really the issue?

AndyJ

hi,

Yes, i can have VFE show up on the DCT, but after I increase to 26 of 50 i cannot go farther. do you know what's going to on this?
Thanks

Is this 5.5.2? If so I think the browser should crash long before 25. I don't really have an answer, but try

<textarea external-editor="visualformat" external-editor-inline="f"/>

specifically the external-editor-inline. See if your problem goes away with this config, if so it is a bug, licensing restriction, etc. (there may be a workaround but I have no idea).

AndyJ

In 5.0.1 TeamSite, is that still i can try with external-editor-inline?

Migrateduser

I am not sure. If that doesn't work, just disable VFE in that textarea and test again - that should tell you if VFE is the problem or something else.

AndyJ

what's the external-editor-inline="f"? when i check out with the VFE it works every time, but just sometime doesn't work well. Is that because the buffer or?
Thanks so much.

That attribute makes the VFE a callout instead of inline, so you have to press a button to see a new window with the button bar (like a CGI callout). There are certainly issues with some versions of VFE and some browsers when there are multiple VFE instances on a form, but I don't know the specific cause.

Interwoven introduced the external-editor-inline attribute with the TeamSite 5.5.2 release. Setting the value to "f" (false) forces the DCT to render the textarea with a callout to the VF instead of embedding the VF in the textarea. I remember reading a TechNote awhile back about VF and DCT stability and I think the suggestion was to not have more then 10 VF open. I believe this has been resolved with 6.x.

Adam Stoller

This was resolved in 6.x by having the inerface only activate the inline VFE editor (Active-X component I believe) when the textarea is given the focus, when another text area is given the focus, the first area becomes inactive before the newly selected area becomes active. This way, at any given point in time, there is only one VFE active at a time in a DCT form.

However - if you've been using the callout version of VFE and want to switch to the improved inline version (in 6.x+) - you'll probably want to add at least 2 more rows to each of your textareas to compensate for the amount of space taken up by the VFE toolbar.

Do you know where I can find the TechNote mention about VF and DCT stability and I think the suggestion was to not have more then 10 VF open.
Thanks.

I searched the KB articles on the support and DevNet side and didn't find it. Interwoven must of removed or restricted access to the article I was thinking of

(It was published when 5.5.2 rolled out).

I might be wrong about when the external-editor-inline attribute was introduced. I reviewed an old Support Case and according to Marcia So @Interwoven

In reply to:

...This attribute (external-editor-inline) was added in TeamSite 5.02 when we found in TeamSite 5.01 (Visual Format was introduced in this version) that having lots of Visual Format instance in Templating would cause the browser to crash.

But still doesn't do you any good.
She also makes reference to article KB 48731 concerning VF and callouts. But it's now RESTRICTED

.

I give up...
