Is there a way to catch a DCR in edit mode and deal with that in an inlne command? We are using an inline command to generate a unique ID in a DCR. However, when we edit, the same code is executed - and it's not ideal for our situation. Is there a way to determine in an inline command if the DCR is being edited?

I don't believe so, no. The DCT is parsed, including the <inline> components, before the DCR is ever read, so that the DCR validation logic has the complete DCT available to it.

I think if you need that functionality, you'll need to move it to a callServer invocation from FormAPI

Just thinking... wouldn't a lock exist ("Launching Edit") on the file before the DCT is parsed and even the inline component is read?

If so, can we assume that this type of lock means that the DCR is being edited at the moment?

It isn't that TeamSite would be incapable of providing this information at <inline> parsing time. It would be a little more work on Interwoven's part, but do-able. The problem is that it doesn't provide this information. When the <inline> is run, the name of the DCR isn't given to the script, either on the command line or in an environment variable. So the <inline> code wouldn't know which DCR to check the lock status against.

Unless you're talking about trapping the lock event via a trigger, and having the <inline> code find out when the last lock occurred, to see if it might be for a DCR under it's control. Please tell me you're not. I'm noted for coming up with convoluted, Rube Goldberg-like solutions, but that's too scary even for me!

I think Rube Goldberg worked for Interwoven a few years ago -- she was one of the engineers behind the 5.0 release. Make sense?

I think if you set it up so that the inline command is within <default> tags - then it will only be executed when there is no value there (when the DCR is first created) and so when you go to edit, the default value won't be used ... this will prevent the id being changed in the DCR ... it might not prevent the inline command script from running which might cause needless increments of the unique id generator (I think there's a way around this too, but I can't think of it off the top of my head right now)

Opening a file from inline - never had problems.

What exactly are you trying to do ?

I have done something similar in the past. Example: Inline script opens a file, based on the contents of the file, it sets some default value in a DCR field - which is kind of a unique ID and does NOT change when you edit a DCR. Perhaps you can share your DCT/inline and give some more deails about what you are trying to do and the problem you are having.
