TeamSite
Login issue
System
Hi,
We recently upgraded our teamsite to 6.1 from 5.5.2.
We are facing inconsistent login problem. Problem occurs for different userids. When user tries to login to teamsite, we are getting error 'No such teamsite user found'.
This userid is there in author.uid file which we have checked. When we run iwreset it works, but some other time same problem occurs for some other user.
Could anybody please suggest the reason for this being behaving this way. These users are domain users.
Thanks

Sounds weird.
I guess you’ve check your domain.
One idea … check to see it’s not a case sensitivity issue with users inadvertently using the wrong case for there login.
Also, you might want to check to see if the uid files are stored in unix or windows format and play around with that.

What OS?
This sounds like the kind of thing that would happen on a Windows NT system where the TeamSite server periodically had problems contacting the PDC/BDC for account information.
The same thing could happen with Windows 2000 and an ActiveDirectory Server.
It's possible to get the same kind of problem on Unix but, in general, it seems to be much rarer.

Are your UID files being opened / edited directly on the server? Is it possible some other process is blocking access to the role files?

OS is windows 2k NT. I am able to open and edit the uid file. We are using active directory which has user information.
Do you think that it could be problem with AD?

I would suggest you get your network folks involved and see if they can trace the connectivity between your TS server and your AD server - especially when you start seeing problems like this.

Not sure it is still the case with TS 6.1, but in 5.5.2 we saw this error with users that had passwords of 14 or more characters.

I think we're starting to see the same sort of thing over the last couple of days - slightly different symptomology though. A few times a day, users will lose write permissions in their workarea and the New File and New Form Entry options on the menu will grey out (exactly like when one doesn't have domain_local_groups=yes in iw.cfg). It lasts 10-15 minutes and then its over. I'm suspecting some sort of issue talking to AD, but not sure what. Anyone have any handy tips for tracking it down, or for communicating exactly what sort of things to look for to the network folks?

Are your teamsite servers in the same AD domain as the user accounts? We have had problems with AD authentication across domains in the AD forest when we had a GC server take a dump.
