iwupdate to sub-branch

Paul

I am trying to use IWUPDATE to copy a file from the current subbranch to an Archive sub-branch

Our current structure looks like

CHC_SalesToolBox <-- Main Branch
============================
- Archive
- Directories
- Forms <-- Sub Branches
- Links
- News
- Stats

What we're trying to accomplish is to have a way for the user to Archive old files that they may want to keep. The way I have tried to implement this is to create a workflow that will create a list of files and do an IWupdate to the Archive branch. Trying to run this from the command line, I get: ERROR:02102: dst_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Archive\WORKAREA\content\salestoolbox\ does not match src_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Stats\STAGING\salestoolbox\Stats\default.htm

Is there a way to do what I am trying to do using IWUPDATE from a workflow or is there a better way? We are using TeamSite 5.5.2 SP3 on Windows NT

iwupdate assumes an identical *directory* structure between the "source" and "destination" areas -
ERROR:02102: dst_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Archive\WORKAREA\content\salestoolbox\ does not match src_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Stats\STAGING\salestoolbox\Stats\default.htm
You either need to remove the Stats directory from the source area path - or - add the Stats directory to your target area path.

OK I fixed my update script to add the Stats and I get the same thing:
C:\>iw-home\bin\iwupdate -w -f iw-home\CIGNA\temp\new_filelist_9065.list
\default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Archive\WORKAREA\content\salestoolbox\Stats

ERROR:02102:
dst_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Archive\WORKAREA\content\salestoolbox\Stats does not match
src_vpath \default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Stats\STAGING\salestoolbox\Stats\default.htm

In your case, since you are using a filelist and not two areavpaths - I think you want to change your command line to (all one line):

C:\>iw-home\bin\iwupdate -w -f iw-home\CIGNA\temp\new_filelist_9065.list
\default\main\CHC_SalesToolbox\Archive\WORKAREA\content

(i.e., leave off all directory paths from the destination vpath )

If you specify the directory and/or file on the destination path it is expecting a 1:1 correlation, whereas if you only specify the areavpath - it figures out the area-relative-path to use for each file in the source list (or at least that's what it's supposed to do)

That works. I didn't actually try the commandline because I added it to my update script and it built the line properly and updated the proper sub-branch/workarea.

Thanks. I really appreciate the assistance and guidance.

Now I have to try one more thing Smiley Wink

Thanks again

OK. Now that that works and I have it adding directories of stuff and recursing through the directories. I am wondering (because I will be asked) if there is a command that will delete the original files in new_filelist_$$.list I haven't seen this one in the command line manual Smiley Surprised

I am wondering ... if there is a command that will delete the original files in new_filelist_$$.list

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking - suppose you provide a before/during/after kind of picture of what you are looking for?

That sounds like a good idea

BEFORE:

========

File myFile.html resides in default/main/CHC_SalesToolbox/Stats/Workarea/content
user wants to Archive this because it's no longer being used but can't for contractual reasons delete it.

User initiates the Archive workflow to accomplish this task

DURING:

========

Workflow builds new_filelist_##.list
Uses file list to perform an IWUPDATE on the Archive branch default/main/CHC_SalesToolbox/Archive/Stats with the selected content

(what I now want to do) Files contained in new_filelist_##.list are deleted from original Branch location default/main/CHC_SalesToolbox/Stats/Workarea/content

AFTER:

========

Archive Branch now contains the files and the original branch is clear

I assume you're running the iwupdate in an external task written in Perl. If that assumption is wrong, this won't be very helpful.

In the same loop where you're adding files to new_filelist_##.list, add those same files (with their full filesystem paths) to a Perl list (@files). Then, call unlink on that list, and the files should be removed.

Basically, you have to do this yourself; but since you already have the filelist and already know the original source-branch / workarea - it shouldn't be too difficult:

@ARGV

@files

@files)

Modify the filelist so that it contains entry separated by a comment - e.g. go from:
to:
that way you can submit them using a filelist. Building from the code above - something like:

That should just about do it - obviously I'd recommend testing carefully first (I don't always get the code right the first time ;-)).
