Problem writing to iw-mount

Hi,

We recently rebooted our TS server. After this, we are unable to write to the iw-mount which is set to /iwmnt/default and /.iwmnt/default through the file system interface. Writes through TS GUI are working. Unmounting and remounting these file systems hasn't helped. Problem is that when the server is rebooted, iwmount automatically mounts these filesystems. Strangely the filesystems behave as read only even though the directory permissions are set to 775.

Check your iwserver.log and iwtrace.log I'm guessing that you're running up against the low percentage threshold for the partition where the backing store is located. If so, there would be messages in those logs indicating such.

I looked up the iwserver and iwtrace logs and cannot find any errors. If low percentage threshold for the partition where the backing store is located has been reached, shouldn't writes from TS GUI also be disabled? In this case, I am able to write from the TS GUI but when I cd to this directory and try to write, it throws a File system error -
/iwmnt/default/main> mkdir test
mkdir: 0653-358 Cannot create test.
test: The file system has read permission only.

What do you see when you type the following command: mount | grep iwmnt

Your command "/iwmnt/default/main> mkdir test" fails because you cant create a directory using mkdir at that level on IFS. Try the same command on any workarea. Something like:


cd /iwmnt/default/main/<branch_name>/WORKAREA/<workarea_name>
mkdir test

It happens to us from time to time. After the reboot we are unable to write to /iwmnt.

/etc/init.d/iw.server stop_all
/etc/init.d/iw.server start

solves the problem

Result when I do a mount | grep iwmnt -

t25cm101 /iwserver/default /.iwmnt/default nfs May 17 18:26 vers=2,noac

I receive an error when I try to stop the TS server -
/etc/init.d/iw.server stop_all
ERROR: iwetcboot -h returned 127

As per IwovGraduate's post (good eyes!) you were attempting to create a directory at a location within the IFS that it's not allowed - so the test case scenario you presented was invalid to begin with.

What happens if you cd into a workarea via the IFS and then try to create a directory? (and verify first that you, as the logged in user, should have access to do so)

Also - the output you got from 'mount' looks a bit different than what I'm seeing - but then I don't know what version of TeamSite you are using on what version of which OS?

For me, with TS6.1 on Solaris 8 - I see something like:

Problem is solved .I created a branch under /iwmnt/default/main through TS GUI and then ran a script through the file system interface to create the sub branches. But I am still curious as to why iwmkbr will not work on /iwmnt/default/main?

The parameters specified in the config file -

If I'm reading this correctly - you were trying to run:iwmkbr nl_nl businesscenter "nl_nl" INITIAL cpemaste bcnlnl_u - yes?
I don't think that will work - the parent is supposed to be a full vpath - so it would have to be something like:iwmkbr /default/main/nl_nl businesscenter "nl_nl" INITIAL cpemaste bcnlnl_u

Yes, parent branch is set to default/main and the value in config is appended to this to read /default/main/businesscenter.

My question here is to create a parent branch (Businesscenter), that is to create a directory under /iwmnt/default/main to read /iwmnt/default/main/businesscenter, can I do mkdir or iwmkbr ? or do I have to create the parent branch thru TS GUI only and why?

This should work:

iwmkbr /default/main Businesscenter "comment" INITIAL userid groupid

If it doesn't, I'd be curious to see the error message(s).

If you want to create a branch - /default/main/businesscenter, you can do it either using the GUI or using the iwmkbr command. (See ghoti's post above.) You cannot mkdir under /default/main. Keep in mind that although /iwmnt *appears like* a normal (ufs) filesystem, it is not.
