CSF install error
trbofly
This is starting to get frustrating.
I am unable to install CSF so that I can install Open Deploy.
When trying to install I get the error "Get Framework Variables Failed" Unable to locate home directory...
Any help is appreciated.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with the installer for CSF to offer much advice here. But you only need to install CSF if you intend to use the OD 6.0 admin UI or web services. Also, the order of installation of OD components really doesn't matter, so if you just need the base server for command line based deployments, you can proceed with that.
Is this a first time install of CSF? Is a version of TeamSite present? (They share some install technology -- perhaps there's a conflict of some sort.)
If you don't get a more helpful suggestion on this forum, I'd recommend working with Tech Support (if you haven't opened a case already.)

Thanks for your response Todd,
We are trying to Install CSF on an Open Deploy reciever, so it isnt the same server as the Teamsite box. Are you saying CSF isnt needed?
We do have a case opened, but sometimes it is quicker to get some advice from the userbase.
Dwayne
I'm
almost
certain that's correct - the CSF is only needed by the admin component, not the base server or the receiver. The receiver relies on the admin server (if used) to perform authentication, etc, so it doesn't need the CSF.
deploy.cfg
and
odrcvr.xml
are all it really needs to accept incoming deployments.

Hi;
The error seems to me that wrong script or .exe file is used to launch the CSF installer.
The right order should be the followings:
1. download package onto the local machine.
2. unpackage it( after the unpackaging, the top directory should be "CSF")
3. under CSF, the is a script called (install.bat or install.sh(unix))
4. Run install.bat(sh) to launch the CSF installer.

Yeah, that is the way we are installing it (and it worked on other machines).

CSF is not needed on the receiver box.
In general, you should install just one CSF somewhere on your network (most likely inside the firewall) if you intend to use the OD admin UI and/or OD web services.
CSF provides a web services based access service that is used by the OD admin server or your web services client program for authenticating a user.
There's a recorded DevNet webcast that goes into tech detail on OD 6.0 and includes a couple slides on the CSF component, if you're interested.

We are experiencing the exact same issue trying to install on our dev servers for OD administration. We have a ticket open with tech support (case# 1211020), but no response yet. I'd be very interested in knowing if you found a workaround or fix, yet.
emattheis
We got a workaround from Interwoven on this issue. Apparently the installer doesn't like spaces in the path for the temp directory. Here's the fix:
1. Reset the system variable %TEMP% pointing to a directory which does not have a space.
2. Reboot machine.
3. Run the installer again.
Hope this helps somebody, it sure was frustrating

Can CSF installed the same server as TeamSite 6.1?
Adam Stoller
Yes, CSF - the AdminServer - the Base Server - all can be installed on the same machine as TeamSite.
However, you're best off if you do NOT install them within TeamSite's IWHOME directory or within each other's home directory.
Our setup at my customer's site is:
/usr/app/iwov/teamsite (IWHOME - TS 6.5)
/usr/app/iwov/OpenDeployNG (Base Server - 6.0.2)
/usr/app/iwov/search (TS Search home directory)
If we had installed CSF and/or the Admin Server (we didn't - this customer doesn't use them) - they would also have been installed under /usr/app/iwov/ but distinctly from the other directories that are already present there (e.g. /usr/app/iwov/CSF, /usr/app/iwov/AdminServer)
