Upgrade TS from Windows to UNIX

Hi,

We are evaluating the upgrade TS 5.0.2 to TS 6.1 from Windows platform to Solaris one. Are true the next steps?

1. Installing TS 6.1 onto Solaris machine
2. Recreate branch structure on Solaris machine
3. Extract all the EAs of the edition to a textfile (Windows system)
4. Copy all the filesystem assets over from Windows to Solaris
5. Reapply the EAs from the source machine
6. Create the edition using the name of the source edition

We are worried about migrating user permissions from Windows platform to Solaris. Is it true?

Those steps look about right.
There's no issue with migrating user permissions / file ownerships - because you cannot migrate them. Windows and Unix use completely different mechanisms for identifying users and groups.

My company is aslo undertaking a similar project TS 6.5 Win 2k --> TS 6.7 Solaris 10. This process is undocumented and I have not found a lot of info on devnet. Can the backing store conversion steps be fleshed out here? We already have a script that generates the list of editions we want to carry over. For our migration we want to migrate the file history, and the file-user info as well

But the scenario is reverse....We are migrating from Unix to windows (I hate to say that)...
Is it possible to have a tape backup from the Unix TS server and restore it back to the win2k server?

Absolutely NOT.

The user and group credentials are completely different as far as the backing store goes - and the binaries are completely different as far as the application goes.

If your company is looking to reduce server hardware costs (usually the case when trying to get off Unix) - perhaps they should consider going for Linux - it's still Unix (and thus I believe you can copy/migrate the existing backing store) - but it runs on PC-hardware - it should also ease (somewhat) the pain of trying to migrate all sorts of customizations (though there's still bound to be some effort in that)
