Priority email
rapid
Hi,
W2K + TS6.1 + Perl 5.8.2
Can we set the email message as 'High Priority' as per Outlook's importance flag?
I did not find any argument to the default Mail:Mailer program shipped with TeamSite.
Has anybody tried this?
Would appreciate any pointers.
Thanks.

My guess is that it's a special header that Outlook uses - take a look at the full headers of a MS Outlook message - my guess is you can just add something like this to the Headers hash:
...
my(%headers) = ('To' => $$oref{t},
'Cc' => $$oref{c},
'From' => $$oref{f},
'Subject' => $$oref{s},
'Content-Type' => 'text/plain; charset=UTF-8',
'X-Priority' => "high",
);
...
(Eudora seems to use "high", "medium", "low" - Outlook might use something else?)

Thanks for the info. Outlook uses "Importance". I added the line:-
'Importance' => "high"
and it worked.

Apparently it's a non-standard field, for which no extension has been requested to RFC822. If it was an extension of RFC822 it is supposed to begin with "X-", otherwise it's allowed without the prefix but subject to being [re]-used for a new standardized header (or for any other purpose) at any time.
If you're working with multiple mail client programs you'll need to find out what they use (if anything) to indicate the priority of the email.

You can also use those headers with email templating.
In your header pt you can use the following.
<other_header name="Importance">
High
</other_header>
<other_header name="X-Priority">
1
</other_header>
Importance is usually just a visual field in your email client
and X-Priority is actually used by the email transport in terms of message delivery priority if it is supported.
Not sure about the standards stuff that fish mentioned, but I do know they both work with outlook and lotus notes.
