qw, qx, qq operators

Hello Everyone,
I am working On Teamsite 6.1, on win 2k3 . I am trying to run a command inside my *.ipl. Every thing works fine except for the qx operator which does not execute the command. Here is my piece of code which i am inputting

my $foo1=qq|"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Network Associates\\Engine\\scan.exe" $file_path|;
print $foo1;
my $foo2 = qx($foo1);
print "$foo2";

My $file_path will be a path to the file, my scan.exe is scanning.
$foo1 is returning "C:\Programe Files\............\scan.exe" <path>
and my $foo2 is not returning anything.
Please let me how can i execute it??

Your code looks good to me, at first glace -- are you certain that scan.exe is not executing?

Fortunately, there's many ways to accomplish what you're trying to do.

can you tell me how else, can i accomplish this.
I just found out that, my scan.exe works, but it blocks certain files from scanning, I mean the extensions have to be specific.
For example it will not scan an *.htm file if you specify it to scan with out extention, so every time i have to specify my extension like xyz.htm.
So now that , i see that my scan.exe is working, can you suggest me a way to work with this qx operator which is not returning any value.

If you know in advance that it is not going to return a valid result for certain file types, use a regex to check the list of known bad file types against the result. Or, if an empty result always means that the file couldn't be scanned, you could check your result with a regex to see if it was just empty or just whitespace.

does scan.exe send its output to STDOUT or STDERR?
If the latter - you need to capture it with redirection - e.g. put
2>&1
at the end of the command string
