I need to connect to a group of external Oracle tables to insert extracted elements from stored XML docs. Any advice on best practices?

When you say "insert" you mean into an MP Library or a web page?

Thanks so much for responding! Actually, what the requirement entails is that existing XML docs stored in WorkSite have specific elements extrapolated from them -- which are then inserted into a group of relational Oracle tables. The Oracle database is located on another server. The event that would trigger the writes/new doc version would be a save. So, the inserts of specific tagged data elements are happening to the tables, not to the MP Libs or a specific web page.

I am not sure how you are going to detect the saves in MP. If the front end is the web app, you might be able to customize the import and checkin pages to fire your process. Not my area though.

MP 4.0 includes support for intercepting events with a custom plugin. Once the event is caught you can grab the document and do your processing.
