In Teamsite 6.1, I'm working on the DCTs. I'm trying to call a javascript function in the tips popup window that will allow use to link to a document in a specific size popup window.

Here is my item:

the popupWindow is just a simple functions that makes specifications about the window.

I know I can have a popup window if I have my link as <a href="http://www.google.com" target="new", but I can specify anything about the size. Any suggestions of how to get this to work. I need to find where I put the javascript so it can be accessed.

There may be an easier way - but you could link to a CGI, have the cgi do an onLoad function do a resize of the window and then do a redirect to the desired URL...

Can't you just put the .js containing the popup function wherever you keep all the shared FormAPI libraries (for instance IWHOME/httpd/iw/formapi/library.js), then reference it with a <script> tag at the top of the DCT, just like you would any other .js library? Actually, you might even be able to reference .js files on other servers?

You could try putting the Javascript right in your href.

For instance:

<a href="javascript&colon;window.open(url,name,features)">

Where URL is self-explanatory, name is however you want to refer to the child window, and features is where you actually set dimensions (i.e. height=300,width=450), etc.

A couple of things come to mind.

You could not use the popupWindow function that you're referencing now, and put an explicit window.open() call directly in-line as a part of the anchor target

If you declare your function in a FormAPI block, then you could find the frame that contains the function using the getScriptFrame() function.

This works for the popup window, but then my dct just displays [object]

I need it to still contain the DCT information

I used this link in my DCT <a href="javascript&colon;window.open('http://www.google.com','_blank','toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=1,width=800,height=600')">

when you click on the link - the entire frame between the title bar with save, save as, etc to the bottom next and cancel buttons displays [object] and that's it.

Fish can probably either confirm or deny this (that is, I don't know off the top of my head), but your window name "_blank" might already be used by TeamSite and is targetted to that area where you saw that weirdness occur.

Can you rename the window to something obscure and see if the same thing happens?

I haven't seen this problem in IE 6 at all but have seen it with older browsers. In the meantime, I put something together that was rather quick sloppy but, for whatever reason, it's displaying for me just fine.

In the meantime, John's suggestion above does not depend on browser compatibility and perhaps that would work here?

We don't have this file on our servers? Is it just something I will need to create or should i be looking for some other file by a different name?

This file would contain custom JavaScript functions - you will have to create it.
