Initializing replicant to 0

Is it possible for a new DCR to be initialized to have a replicant initialized to 0 elements? We have a template where we want people to add updates and revisions as replicants, separate from the content. Of course, when you are creating a new record, there are no updates, so having the fields display just adds clutter. I can set the minimum number of items to 0, but then the user must delete the entry to clean up the blank revision manually. Any thoughts?
