Failed Deployments

We have been experiencing SEVERAL failed deployment, but it has only been recent (within the last 2 or 3 days). Nothing related to the environment or the configuration files have changed. Our deployment configuration is a fan deployment to 3 servers using a transactional deployment. After looking at the server logs, one line stuck out as different:

ENG: 2004-05-26 11:02:14 EDT GMT-04:00 Completed session queue capacity reached. Removed oldest session.

Where exactly is this session queue and how can we change it to point to a larger drive space?

BTW, we are on OD 5.6 to WIN2K servers.

I believe that message is simply informational and harmless and has nothing to do with deployments succeeding or failing.
I thought there were some posts in this forum about that message, but I can't seem to find them right now.

I'll let someone else provide the technical response to what the session queue is.

In the meantime, I suggest you look a bit closer at the logs *and* the diskspace available on the Receivers (as lack of diskspace sometimes seems to cause OD to fail in strange ways)

The OD base servers and receivers each maintain an internal table of completed jobs. These can be viewed from the admin UI when you monitor the completed deployments for a particular OD server. (Note that restarting the OD server will wipe out the table.)

There's an attribute called completedQueueSize that can be configured for the OD server to specify the number of completed deployment jobs that are tracked. The default value is 50, and the allowed range is 1-100.

The OD 5.6 installation guide has a section called "Specifying the Completed Deployments List" that explains.

Ahhh...thanks for clarifying that.

On another note, we have a *weird* scenario taking place. It appears that we are getting the following errors on files that have been changed:

ERROR: Could not get file data(.somechangedfile.html) from socket.
ERROR: DoCopying() failed, check target log.
ERROR: Failed deploying local_directory[0] () to ()
ERROR: Failed 1 of 1 local_directories

If I deploy the previous EDITION, the deployment completes successfully. Currently, the only way to achieve a successful deployment is to disable the transactional mode. I've checked all web server logs (both OS and OD) - and nothing. Any thoughts?

If you are doing a directory comparison deployment on Unix, try using the non-cached mount point, /.iwmnt prefix (note the dot before iwmnt).

If you are doing a TeamSite comparison deployment on Unix, specify the area using /default.

(Page 24 of the OD 5.6 Release Notes, Nov 2003 edition, go into detail on these points.)

If transactional deployments are failing but non-transactional are succeeding, could be that you don't have enough disk space on the target. Transactional takes up to 3x space for the duration of a deployment as compared to non-transactional because it keeps temporary backup and new copies of files involved in the deployment.
