install OD and TS on different server

If I install TeamSite on Server1 and OpenDeploy base server on Server2, if it possible for me to configure my OD base server to point to back to TeamSite on Server1 (such as specify OpenAPI host to be Server1 and specify a RMI port for OpenAPI) so that I can still use "TeamSite Comparison Deployments", or deploy TeamSite metadata with DataDeploy and DAS?

Any particular reason why you don't want to install OD base server on TS server ?

Our TS server runs on Windows and performance is always a concern. We want to move any resouce consuming services to other servers.

For TeamSite comparison deployments, the OD base server needs to be on the same host as TeamSite. OpenAPI isn't used for this. Likewise for DD and DAS.

I think you need the OD Base server on the TeamSite server. Compared to TS, OD does not use much of resources.

Ever heard of Sparc/Solaris ?

Not currently planned. The OD base server doesn't really consume lots of resources, so we haven't heard this request too often.

Also, I think if we did allow the base server to reside on a separate host, you'd end up with performance degradation in other areas:

+ Comparison phase communication between OD and TS would now be over the network (similar to how directory comparison works)

+ Retrieval of the source files would be over the network

Note that in OD 6 (due in about a month), the DD and DAS functionality is now integrated into the OD base server. So you can run a single base server rather than a base server and DAS daemon, as it is today. (But OD6 also allows you to run multiple base server instances on the same host, in case you want to separate the traditional OD work from the DAS work.)
