Question about using iw_load_dcr...

Hello again everyone, and thanks for looking at my posting!

I have a situation where I need to open some DCR's in another data type. (Again!

) This time, however, I want to loop through the entire data directory instead of just 1 DCR. I won't know the actual file names either, as they will be unique. (e.g. 20040917-ivantheterrible or 20040917-blahblah) I'm not sure if iw_load_dcr can perform this function or if I need to perhaps use the TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRNode library. Hopefully, some of you out there have done somthing similar to this in the past and can point me in the right direction.

What about using iw_load_dcr within a loop set up as:



@files = qx|/bin/ls -1 <directory>|;
foreach (@files) {
   ...
   iw_load_dcr
   ...
}

Don't fire off another shell to get the contents of a directory - that's horrible for performance (and not portable across platforms) - instead either use globs (<*>) or usually better, opendir/readdir/closedir

Okay, I haven't measured them and didn't know there was that much of a difference, but (dlsoderberg) that syntax would look like:


opendir(DIR, $directory) || die "Can't open $some_dir: $!";
@files = grep {/^\./ && -f "$some_dir/$_" } readdir(DIR);
closedir DIR;

I would suggest you use Dave's code for filling an array with the contents of the directory and then do a loop through the contents of that array - you may need to prefix the entries in the array with the same path leading up to the directory with the files when doing the iw_load_dcr() call.
