What *is* the crack threshhold
System
We're running MT 3.6. The manual doesn't really do an especially great option of explaining what the configuration options in the file actually do. When PSO was here, Zak worked with us to get the initial config right, and one of the things we had to do was to increase the post-crack-threshhold:
<post-crack-threshold>5000000</post-crack-threshold>
Now, my boss asked me what that actually does, and I don't really have a clue. What unit is the threshhold measured in? Is it the number of unique terms in the doc, size of the temp file, or what? Is this actually explained anywhere (searching the pdf for the string 'crack' returned 0 occurences.

Hey Rob
IIRC, the crack threshold is the limit on how large documents you can use. I assume it chews up memory since
IWOV leaves it default at 5MB. We boosted ours up to 25 MB or so, but we also had some rather large PDFs to
be cracked.

There's a separate option for maximum file size (called something like max-file-size). Also there are separate pre and post crack threshholds, so I think it's a little more nuanced than just the input file size.
