inconsistent login in TS6.1

Has anybody noticed - when one tries to login to webdeskpro (the old interface) in TS 6.1.,, they are given a login screen , that still has options to choose from standard or Professional interface....

VERY confusing and inconsistent IMO.

I'd suggest to create a third option in the select list, so the users could choose between 3 exhisting interfaces...Actually, it does exist, but comes up ONLY when one logs out of the interface (webdeskpro) and tries to log in back again...

I am thinking to put a rewrite rule for apache so TS 6.1 will always be launched via this URL:

http://server-name/iw-cc/teamsite/common/start.jsp?webdeskpro=true

I've noticed and it's truly confusing.

I like your workaround of using the redirect; it's just frustrating that all 3 interfaces wouldn't be (conveniently) available out of box.

but, frankly, the quality of even basic functionality in 6.1 is really poor, the more I use the new interface, the more angry I become...

This is simply pathetic... total absence of quality control and regression testing

yes, I will let everybody know about this workaround, if it works, I will do another DevNet article.. maybe they could send me one extra iPod?

This was much easier then I thought initially - I've put 2 rewrite rules for iw-webd that redirect

server/ or server/iw requests to the URL I've mentioned above...

here they are:

RewriteRule ^/$ /iw-cc/teamsite/common/start.jsp?webdeskpro=true [R,L]
RewriteRule ^/iw$ /iw-cc/teamsite/common/start.jsp?webdeskpro=true [R,L]

Now I am about to write a TechLibrary article...

BTW, if IWOV charged a client for this solution, it would cost much more than an iPod

Ok, here's the article:

In order to ensure user experience consitency, especially on the 6.1 installations, where some users still use the old (WebDesk Pro) interface, it's advisable to add WebDeskPro in the list of avialable interfaces.

The following actions are required:

Edit iw-webd configuration file template (iw-home/iw-webd/conf/rewrite.conf.template) and substitute (or comment out) the following line:

RewriteRule ^/$ /iw-cc/command/iw.ui [R,L]

with the following lines:

RewriteRule ^/$ /iw-cc/teamsite/common/start.jsp?webdeskpro=true [R,L]
RewriteRule ^/iw$ /iw-cc/teamsite/common/start.jsp?webdeskpro=true [R,L]

Run iw-home/iw-webd/bin/iwwebd_conf.ipl. This will generate rewrite.conf
Reset TeamSite: iw-home/bin/iwreset -a

Now all the users will be able to login into TeamSite using all three available interfaces, using one URL, from one login screen (no knowledge of WebDeskPro URL is required).

Not sure if I follow you, but the key is in passing the webdesk=true parameter in the URL. If that param isn't in place, the webdesk pro choice isn't available from the select box on the login page. So Greg is just having any hit to certain addresses be redirected to a URL with that param.

Bjorn has explained this very well - by default TS takes you to the URL that I commented out and substituted with another, that will put webdeskpro in the list.

Okay - sounds good - I just didn't see how that was happening soley based on adding redirects in the conf file. I was assuming you had to modify something else to actually get it listed in the drop-down select list.

I have another question regarding the new login screen - is it possible to only show certain login choices per role?

e.g. only allow Authors to Log on to Standard? I am sure it must be possible!! :-)

Yes. You'll need to modify the login.jsp page and code the javascript.

I know the old login.jsp wasn't exactly easy to hack. For example, to get rid of the Webdesk checkbox, or have it default to checked=false.

No it isn't that easy, but I wouldn't consider it too difficult. You just need to interpret a JSP page and modify it appropriately. I've done this with the 6.1 login page and it wasn't too bad.

It also helps to have a dev machine which is set to "no_precompile". So that you can simply edit the .jsp page and delete the work files and have your changes apply right away. You can set the machine to "no_precompile" as an option in the compile methods listed in the UICG.

that's the point I was making - the URL and the ability to include the option IS there, it's simply not used consistently acropss the application.

I've discovered the URL after I've loged out from WebDeskPro and attempted to login back....

this question belongs to IWOV Engineering. I do not believe that this could be done using what I've just done. I do it on the iw-webd (in fact, apache) level, it is not aware of TeamSite's existence
