Authentication Library
rajit
Hi
I have a doubt regarding the Authentication Library in WorkSite MP.
For a cluster, we can have only one Authentication Library. If we want to
add another library to the same server and facility, then how do we
connect configure the realm in the new library?
If I configure a new realm with new users, I get an error saying that this user
is not present in the authentication library. And if I try to add same users as
in the authentication lib, then I get an error saying couldn't connect to the Authentication Lib.
If somebody could explain the real use of Authentication library especially in a scenario
where there are multiple libraries under the same facility/server, it would be great!
Thanks
Rajit

The answer is replication. You can have as many libraries as you want in the cluster, each with its own master realm (if desired). However, you have to set up the authentication library to have slave realms for each of the additional master realms in the cluster.

In your library manager and in your authentication library:
Right click Accessible Libraries in the Realm Settings and add your new libraries
Then right click Realms and click ADD. If you have done the previous step you will have your library listed here and you can add it as a slave realm.
In configuration manager you have to have added replication, added your libraries to it, and save the cluster file. You can restart that service to force replication if you have selected full replication at startup on that services property sheet.
This can take a bit of time the first time. The icons on the slave realm will have a blue 'R' on the globe icon when it completes.
That's pretty much it. If you have any further questions let me know.

Hi JTNeville,
I tried that, but I guess I'm not getting a key concept.
I have 2 libraries setup, and I went into the library manager and added my first library to the accessible library list under realms, and I added my first library to the trustee accessible libraries under my master realm under my second library. I added my first library as a slave realm to my second library.
I went into the configuration manager, and allowed replication for both of my libraries and restarted it the service.
From here, I'm not sure what I'm to do.
If my authentication library is library2, and i have a slave realm in library 2 for library1, shouldnt i be able to access both the libraries and facilities when I log in?? I guess I'm not sure exactly what it has to do, and the documentation doesn't lead me to a clear answer. Can you help me understand why it is that you have the slave libraries and multiple facilites under a library??
Any help would be much appreciated!!

Actually, I missed a step and did not check off execute full replication at startup. This brought the 'R' on the slave realm and now although my authentication library is library 2, i can login with users from other libraries as well.
However, is it possible to let the master realm in my first library connect to a facility in my second library?? When I edit the realm for the first library, it lets me select a facility in another library and a homepage in another library as well. However, when I press ok, it says that "You have selected a preferences facility located in a library that is currently inaccessible to this trustee!" I went into my second library's master realm, and added my user from the first library's master realm as a trustee. However, it doesn't fix the problem. Should i be able to do this? and if so, how??
Thanks so much!

In the same dialog where you set the homepage, there is a list of accessible libraries for that trustee (bottom of the page). When setting the homepage in your first library, make sure the second library is in the accessible library list.
