specifying default filename on retrieval task
WHarrison
I am wondering if there is a way to specify a default filename "mask" within a retrieval task. I'd like to be able to select several JPEGs, and retrieve them with a specific task that will resize the images and append a predetermined string to their file names.
Example:
logo.jpg
&
product.jpg
would be run through a "make low res" task and be exported as
logo_lr.jpg
&
product_lr.jpg
.
Any ideas on how I might accomplish this within a task is greatly appreciated.

Well, yes and no. By default the server only manipulates the file extension and does that if "add default extension" is checked. In that case it adds an extension based on the file format encoder being used.
There is one special case, however. The AGS Encoder is a way to encapsulate the functionality of Adobe Graphics Server. A subset of the primitives we provide accomplish their operations using AGS while many do not, but we wanted to provide an escape mechanism for functionality not otherwise exposed. Because the result of an AGS script is whatever file format is specified inthe script, the "default extension" is user-defined (i.e., the script might end up wrting out a PNG or a JPG or a GIF). The result will be the result of the script which is passed as a parameter.
Ordinarily, the extension from a task is not dependent on task parameters and is determined simply by looking at the primitives (specifically the last one). However, in this special case, the user can set the extension as a parameter.
Here comes the tricky part :-). You will not be able to get filename_lr.jpg say, but you may be able to make an AGS script that outputs to JPG and tell it that the appropriate extension is: .lr.jpg
Of course the "front door" method for accomplishing what you want is via scripting. In particular, this is the sort of functionality envisioned by the Hot Folder Editor. Please see the documentation for that application.
Good luck,
