Upgrade from 5.5.* to 6
alanhill
Hi,
My company is in the process of planning a move from Teamsite 5.5.* to 6. My department maintain the templates and as such we need to plan in regression testing etc.
I have a few questions regarding the upgrade:
1. Is TS6 backwards compatible with TS5.5.* templates?
2. What problems have people encountered when upgrading?
We have a strange version of Teamsite - 5.5.1, which I don't believe too many people have.
If anyone has any stories, hints, helpful tips, case studies etc, please get in touch.
Cheers

The DCTs should work as is I believe - though the appearance may be a bit different than what you're currently used to. If you decide to use the latest version of the DCT DTD - you'll probably have to modify yrour DCTs since 'replicants' don't exist as such (replaced by min/max values on conainers and/or individual items)
The PTs should work just fine without any need for change (unless you change the DCTs)
The templating.cfg may need to be re-worked though (to handle restriction of where templates actually exist since that's no longer done at the file system level) - plus you can make use of some of the new features of the templating.cfg to control things like which buttons (save, save-as, generate, preview, etc) show up and also whether or not the left-hand navigation section shows up.
I'm in the process of a medium-to-long term transition (from 552SP2b) and templating has generally been less of a problem than most ofther things (CGIs - especially with respect to metadata capture callouts are more problematical)

We had som perl callouts and FormAPI code that didn't work correctly in 6. Something with the way the replicants are numbered on the web page in version 6 changed. If forget, it's been a few months since we upgraded. Oh, and by the way, upgrading didn't work well for us. We finally had to fully uninstall 5.6 and then install 6 from scratch.
I would highly suggest setting up a second Teamsite box to test your workflows, FormAPI, datacapture forms and any inline callouts in a version 6 environment. If you've done any amount of customization you will find a few incompatibilities.
