Is onFormInit a valid event type? It's not anywhere in the documentation that I have.

Why don't you try invoking init() directly, instead of trying to register an event handler for it?

Have you verified that IWDatacapture.getItem("/field") is returning a valid object?

Also - are there any VisualFormat fields on the same page? According to the docs for IWItem.setFocus(), a VF field on the page will explicity take focus on load, overriding any call to setFocus() that you might have made.

The code is OK if you write correctly the path to the item:

You need to enclose your <items> and <container> with a <root-container name="****" location="****">

The <item> tag needs an attribute "pathid" and the <container> tag needs an attribute "location". These attributes tells FormsPublisher how to read and write the DCR (XML). Use the names of "pathid" and "location" to reference your items.

In the templating.cfg file, set the "dcr-type" to "xml" instead "iwov", it's better format.

No, I'm trying stuff with your code in one of my DCT's (that has a root-container) and I have root container but have not yet gotten it to work.

I have a few theories but I want to try a few hacks first :-)

Using your sample DCT (which you edited, so that my comment about the missing item definition doesn't make sense any more

), does the alert() come up, and does it display the expected value? If so, then I would think that the structure of the DCT would be OK.

By adding a root-container, i now lose the values that are currently stored in my dcr. I have over 500 dcrs already and am trying to retrofit a setfocus()

I'm using his code and I'm setting alerts, which come up just fine. I'm also experimenting with using legacy JavaScript objects instead of IW's (such as document.all, etc.) -- it doesn't seem that he needs IW's extensibility here, so why not?

I've tried to access the form variables by using standard Javascript. Unfortunately, IW does a great job with obfuscating their Javascript so that it's extremely difficult (but not impossible) to reverse-engineer.

I had no luck with this -- is this a supported feature though? If so, I don't see any reason why Support wouldn't help you with this.

Usually, I find alternate solutions vis-a-vis hacking but this time, I am as yet without an answer.

This is with regards to:FormAPI setFocus.

This is a known bug which is fixed in 6.5 and our management team is currently looking into the feasibility of fixing this in SP2.

As a workaround, please change the following line in file $iw-home\httpd\webapps\content_center\formspub\dcapi _item.js

internal.type == datacapture.types.kAndReplicantInstanceContainer

TO

internal.type == _iwdatacapture.types.kAndReplicantInstanceContainer

I have attached your case to the bug and for your reference, the bug number is 55494

I have not tried this yet.

Awww, ****... believe it or not, I was going down that path with the reverse engineer / hacking garbage I was trying to do before. Oh, well... hey, at least we know that it "couldn't be done", at least not without that modification!
