iw-cc/Datacapture/Callout/Calendar.do - configuration?

I want to throw a calendar callout into a DCT I'm developing.
While I know of some 3rd-party [free] javascript code I could use, the project is such that if I can use OOTB stuff - I should do so.
So, in looking through the metadata datacapture.cfg file at some of the LS settings, I noticed that they use something called Calendar.do - I tried it and it seems to work okay, but ...
I'd like to get rid of the prompting for, and returning of, time information
I'd like to have some control over the formatting of the date information that's returned (if possible)
Has anyone here used this OOTB utility for their own purposes and figured out how to tweak it?

My working environment is TS7.0 on W2K8 - but I see the same utility on my TS672 W2K3 dev box - and I somehow doubt this has changed between the releases. Note - although this utility is "mentioned" in the SitePublisher documentation, it's not really documented there unless (and I'm not sure it's the same thing) you're talking about configuring datums for the Date Picker in a SP/LS page - which I'm not - I'm talking about using it in a standard FormsPublisher DCT.

First things first: I wouldn't recommend tweaking OOTB calendar at all. That calendar is used in various places throughout the product and a certain date format is expected in several locations.

With that said, you probably want to copy that widget over (some JSs, JSPs, .inl, etc.) and then customize it to whatever you need to do.

When I said tweak - I was talking about being able to provide some sort of parameters like:

..../Calendar.do?time=f&fmt=YYYY-mm-DD

I have JS and [Perl] CGI code to do this kind of thing, I'm just trying to see if there's an OOTB solution I can use instead.

It's a hack, neither documented nor supported. Andy's fragment is missing couple required global variables and IWOV JS Library reference.
Full-blown sample can be found [thread=18953]here[/thread]. I've used it in 6.5 and 6.7, both IWOV and XML Formats

I try not to use globals in my code either, it's standard good practice. In this case though there was no
way around it. I've reversed-engineered the widget from the WF "Details" Screen, certain things are
expected by the Calendar that are simply not there in the DC Form

Oh, and one more thing:

That's incorrect. calendar_init.js is always required. Without globals however you will not be able to *propagate* your selection back to the Form's Item

Hmm - I added the globals (in my JS file), I added the include (in my DCT), I see the widget, but it doesn't seem to be populating the text field. In fact, it doesn't seem to like the formatDate() function that's defined in the calendar_init.js file - because I had code like this:

I just threw this together on my laptop (TS672 W2K3) to see if I could reproduce the problem locally, and I did.

The first alert returns:[indent]The page at http://... says:
date: Fri Nov 20 2009 07:20:29 GMT-500 (EST)[/indent]That looks like a valid date to me. And still I don't see the second alert (the one that's supposed to begin with "str: "), and still the formatted date information doesn't get populated into the field associated with the callout.

I'm sure there's something "simple" that I've managed to do "wrong" - I just don't see it.

The problem is the code seems to abort when I call formatDate and thus never returns a string to item.setValue() - I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with formatDate (or its inclusion by way of the calendar_init.js ?)
