custom tags not coming in the preview

Hi All,
I have created a cusom tag in html and i am using it in the javascript. but when i preview the dcr , it is trimming the custom tag. my custom tag does not appear in the source code of the html file.It is not getting saved in the DCR as well. I suppose that TeamSite is trimming the custom tag...
Has anyone come across this kind of error?
any kind of help is appreciated. Please let me know if u want more information on it.

What do you mean by "I have created a cusom tag in html"?
HTML only accepts / interprets those tags as defined by the specification.

What do you mean by "... am using it in the javascript"?
Javascript doesn't use tags, you can reference tags (a.k.a. elements) within javascript via things like the DOM model and/or getElementById functions.

When you say " preview the dcr , it is trimming the custom tag. y custom tag does not appear in the source code of the html file" - do you mean that you were outputting this "custom tag" in your PT?
If so, are you using an XML/Perl-based PT or an XSLT-based PT?
Perhaps if you posted the code (as an attachment) someone might be able to figure out what's happening.

hi.. sorry for the incomplete information.
i ll explain in detail:
Firstly I am using XSLT based presentation template.
In the xsl file i have created a custom tag as shown below: (I have not give the angular brackets to the html tags)
html xmlns:MY
style
@media all
{ MY\:hide { text-align:left; display: block; color:green;} }
/style
/html
Now I am using this tag in javascript&colon;
My:hide id="test" some dummy text /MY:hide

Problem: I am using tinymce. In tinymce it is showing the custom tag in the DCT but on saving the DCT this tag is not added in the DCR.
It seems as if Teamsite is trimming the custom tags.
Also when i edit the same DCR , I am not able to see the custom tag(in the end of text area it displays the hierarchy of the content)

When i manually edit the DCR and give the custom tag, it is coming in preview. but on save of DCT, it does not come in DCR and preview.

If you learn how to format code in posts correctly (this has been posted many times) your post would be more clear.

Based on what I believe you're saying - it's not TeamSite that's stripping out your tags, its TinyMCE - so you have to look through all the TinyMCE documentation and configurations to figure out how to get it to not strip out your custom tags.

Are you sure you want to be writing custom html tags? That technique really only works in IE 5 and no modern browser supports it (which is why I assume you're using JavaScript to make it work in modern browsers). Not to mention it's bad Information Architecture since it's not good semantic markup and is a maintenance nightmare down the road.

You should be using classes and ids to label your elements instead of creating custom html tags. It's just better semantically, which is best for SEO and also working with the DOM.

At the path iw-home/httpd/iw/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce there exists a file called tiny_mce_src.js . You need to add your custom tag to "extended_valid_elements" so that tinymce does not clean it up.
