Use DCR item values in Metadata Capture form

Hi All,
I want to use the DCR values in my metadata capture form.I want to populate one of my field in metadata capture form with the DCR item value
Is it possible through forms API?
I tried using formsAPI but it searches in the metadata captue form instead of DCT..
Any kind of help is appreciated.

Two choices

The easy way is to use an inline call. That runs as the form is instantiated. Just run a perl script that generates the options needed.

The second way is FormAPI calling a call server. That runs after the form has loaded. Still you write some server based code to read the DCR.

Unless you have the need to change the values after the form has loaded, inline is the way to go.

Hey actually i think i did not explain my requirement clearly. My requirement specifically is:-

--> I Have an output generated xml file which has a Title and Summary field.
--> Now when i tag this file i want both these values to get pre populated in the Metadata capture form's Heading and Description fileds.
--> Now i can't really figure out what to do in the perl file to get these values as FormsAPI's Command like getitem() returns me the values of the metadata capture form and not of the output xml file.

Please andy help me out here.. i am in a lot of trouble.. Thanks so much.

P.S. i am working with Teamsite 7.1

If I'm understanding your request correctly, I believe the best approach is to tag XML File upon creation.

How exactly do you generate it? If it is (for example) through PT you can use 'iwextattr' to populate desired
MD on the Target File. Then when you use Tagging GUI populated components will simply be there, providing of
course that MD Capture has been configured correctly

Slight clarification note: The above should work just fine for Perl-based PT (*.tpl) files. If you're using XSLT PT files the answer is not so easy (if at all).
