Is there a way to make java calls from Content Center without using formAPI

I have a question in regards to making Java calls on TeamSite Content Center. My question is: is there a way to make java calls without depending on formAPI to do it? I mean, currently we are using in FormsPublisher the formAPI to call servlets in the system, but is there another way to achieve this without using it? Thank you very much!!

Platform: TeamSite 7.4

Running on: Windows 2008 64 bit

Sure. Check out the UI customization guide. You can add buttons, menus and tabs to the UI and call it from there. You will need a complete window, i.e. a JSP to call the servlet.
