How to write a java class that queries LS repository using REST APIs?

Hi,

I am new to LSCS. I want to write a java class that queries LS repository (based on some extended attributes) using REST API's.
I am using LSCS 7.1 on Linux. I am refering to LSCS 7.1 Technical Reference guide.

But, I am not clear on following and need help.

1) How to call these REST API's from a java class?
2) Is there any other method other than REST APIs to query LS repository from a java class?
3) Is there an example of such java class that I can refer to?
4) What is the process to build this class?
5) Do I need to set class path that includes some spefic LSCS jar files?

REST calls are URLs. You hit a URL, it returns XML.

In a nutshell that is what you are dealing with.

There are plenty of services to make those calls in Java.

You would be best served by creating the URL in your browser and viewing the results returned before trying a great deal of development, just to verify you are sending and receiving the information you expect.

I tried creating the url in browser and passed various search criteria.
This works. I am getting response xml based on the filter criteria. I will now create a java class that calls similar REST API's.

Have some follow-up questions:

1) Is it possible to query based on DCR's internal tags, instead of extended attributes?

2) How to retrieve full or some specific content of the DCRs?
E.g. I invoked following url
http://LiveSite Runtime server: port/lscs/v1/document$?q=(TeamSite/Metadata/Category:"TeamSite")

I get multiple documents in response. Attaching the response.

Response has metadata and not the actual content.
How to retrieve entire or some specific content of DCR? What modification is needed to above query to retrieve content?

No, you can AFAIK only query on the metadata. But you could add any dcr-internal values as metadata to the dcr. This metadata will then get deployed to lscs where you could query it.

A query like this "http: //server Smiley Tongue

ort/lscs/v1/document/path/sites/mysite/default.site?project=myproject" would return the actual content of the file. Using f.i. xslt you could then retrieve a portion of the xml. The manual on lscs queries is indeed very hard to read but the section on this has some good information.

Did you check OOTB component? There are few OOTB components which are using java code to query based upon metadata information? If needed you can customized the same

Look at the LscsClient.java within the lscsclient.jar as an example

Also look through the various java externals that come OOTB with livesite

That will show you the way.

basically it is simple, just do http gets in java against the urls you build.
