I am not personally familiar with Quartz but I know it can kick off Java classes on a scheduled interval. In the case for BIRT, you would use Quartz to schedule a report... and then use the BIRT Report Engine API to generate your report.<br />

Quartz with Actuate is not necessary since BIRT report scheduling is built into the web interface.
