List must be able to access one data set
Megha Nidhi Dahal
Hi All,
I'm using Birt 2.5. In my design I have used a big outer list to hold all my palettes and so inside the list I have many other lists, tables and grids.
The design works fine but gives an error while previewing.
It says that list must be able to access one data set.
Is it something that needs to be worried about? I verified that every list has at least one table in it, which access a data set.
Is there any standard thumb rule to be followed during design so that such issues doesn't come up?
I'm completely clueless as whether to let it be as it is or to take it seriously and start reworking.
Please refer the attachment for further details.
regards
Arpan

Hi Arpan,
Is it the outer list that does not have a dataSet? If so, what is the reason for using a list element as the outer structure rather than just a grid?

Hi Michael,
There is no specific data set for outer list, but it does contain tables directly in its detail part which access data sets.
I would use grid as a container, for my further designs but what now? Should I go ahead and change it or can I afford to let it work that way itself as reports are getting generated in spite of initial error?
Need Help.
Thanks in advance.

Arpan,
If it's not affecting your reports, it's probably not going to matter. It should be easy to swap out though. Since the outer list is not attached to a dataSet, you shouldn't have any binding issues by just putting an outer grid in and moving all of your inner tables and items to where you want them. Just be sure to save a copy of your report as is in case you have issues.

Michael,
I have changed my designer by replacing all lists by grids. Reports are getting generated and working fine. Thanks for your valuable suggestion.
I was wondering what role has page break interval to do? It is by default 40 for tables, what if I don't want to give any such property?
My colleagues suggests to give some large value like 50000 as they have been doing, but is it the right way to do?
Thanks a lot.

Arpan,
A large value you know you won't get to or simply 0 should work to avoid setting a specific value for a page break interval. Hope this helps.
