Hi, I have generated a report in xls format and I am getting the error that you can see in the attached file when I try to open the document in MS Excel 2007. Do you have an idea why I got this error for the three export DOC, PPT and XLS? Will the XLS export support the images soon? …

Hi Mat,

XLS file generated by open source BIRT is actually in XML SpreadSheet 2003 format. When Excel loads this file it finds that it is not in the native binary format and pops this warning message (not error message). You can safely ignore this message. There are ways to turn these warnings off, I havent tried this at my end, but here is one suggestion:

I am not sure about any plans to support images in open source BIRT generated XLS files, but Actuate BIRT in version 11 has a new Excel emitter that exports charts and images to XLSX format. Here is a link to my blog about capabilities of this new emitter:
