Pencil Icon in STAGING/Invalid Extended Attribute
System
What does it mean when a file in the STAGING area appears with a pencil icon next to it (as if it's somehow been modified in STAGING)?
In this case the file in STAGING is a templated output file but for some reason includes the extended attribute that indicates it's a DCR (TeamSite/Templating/DCR/PrimaryDocumentType). The corresponding file in the workarea does not have this extended attribute.
iwserver: 5.5.2 Build 18361 Interwoven 20030404

Looks like you might be a few patches behind:

I would upgrade to at least SP3 w/ all the latest patches.

There was a bug (don't remember the number, but based on the other response I'd guess its fixed in SP3) where it was possible to manipulate EAs on files in staging.
I'd suggest that you run iwfsck on your backing store at your earliest convenience as modifying files in staging this way could cause some issues with the backing store (not positively, but possibly)

The bug about manipulating EAs in STAGING is 31510 and is fixed in SP4. I am not sure if there was a patch released for SP3.

It is very difficult to get an Interwoven patch through our QA group. Is there any alternative?

For one thing - run iwfsck to verify the consistancy of the backing store.
For another - check with Support if you find problems and/or are still having the same issues that begat this thread.

I think if we contact support they will just tell us to patch (meaning even versions of 5.5.2 aren't really supported).
The CMS admin has restored the backing store from tape to a backup server and is running or will run iwfsck (we can't bring down production). But by the time it completes the production backing store will have changed.
Is there anything else? Any way to find all modified files in staging or otherwise correct the backing store?
