Hello!

I have a question concerning viewing internationlized reports containing unicode characters within Adobe Reader.

I have integrated resource bundles (format=ASCII) with escaped unicode characters as it is described at BIRT Internationalization into a report. The unicode characters have been escaped with the java sdk nativetoascii tool and are cyrillic characters like '\u041e'.

During runtime when opening the report as PDF the Adobe Reader (Version X) requires the installation of the Chinese Font Pack. When installing the font pack, the characters are displayed. Without the font pack nothing is displayed! Even with font pack the characters are not properly rendered; there is a padding around the character.

Question:
* How can the PDF be generated, so that no font pack is needed? There exist pdf reports with cyrillic characters which do not require a font pack. The report has to run with a standard english Acrobat Reader version within the customer environment. Can the necessary font be integrated e.g. into the PDF file?

* How to avoid the padding around the unicode characters so that they are displyed like english characters without spaces beetween each letter?

Thanks in advance!
