Can you try re-installing the birt all in one from eclipse.org/birt and trying again?

Hi,
are you using a Proxy Server in Firefox? Have you configured Firefox to not contact the proxy server for localhost?

Hi CBRELL, thanks for response.
Yes I am using system proxy setting, how does it affect in this situation?

I haven't changed it since it since I first time used BIRT, still this problem occurred.

The mechanism that is used to do the preview in the designer is using a webapplication that is deployed on your local PC. If you do a preview it uses a browser and calls a webpage deployed on your local pc.
Can you check the proxy settings in firefox? There should be a textfield called no proxy for (or something similar. Can you check if the field contains localhost and 127.0.0.1? Otherwise firefox will contact your proxy to call a local webpage (that will fail for sure)
