Word document to BIRT reports

Hello All,

We have huge (@80 pages) word documents that need to be converted to BIRT reports. Manually converting those to BIRT report is going to be very time consuming so wanted to know if there is a quick way this can be achieved? Can word be used as datasource or be imported in a BIRT report?

No. Word uses a totally different design paradigm than BIRT, and there isn't a Word ODA. There is an Excel as a data source ODA, but not Word.

It's not clear to me from your question whether you are trying to extract data from the Word documents, or you want to produce BIRT reports that look like the Word documents.

If you are trying to extract data from the documents you should be able to create a process that converts the data into a format that BIRT can handle.
The complexity of this process would depend heavily on the nature of the documents.
If the documents just contain delimited text you could use the POI text extractor to convert to plain text files that BIRT can read.
If the documents contain tables of data it should also be quite easy to extract to plain, delimited text files.
If the documents just contain unstructured prose then it's going to be much more complex.

If you are trying to create BIRT reports that generate output that looks like the Word documents you are going to have to do it manually.
Any automated process ouldn't be able to tell what data you wanted on the report, and by the time you'd told it you might as well have built the report from scratch.
