How do I make the report default to run as an excel file?
raineyt

I am making a report to be run in a CMMS, specifically AiM created by Assetworks.

So far, when a report in AiM is run, it defaults to pdf form, but can be changed to xls by adding "&__format=xls" to the URL. I talked to the gal in charge of the system backend, and she says she cannot add this URL snippet to the link, that the default format needs to be changed in BIRT.

I'm running version 4.4.2, thanks for your help!

Sorry, I'm not sure how AiM by AssetWorks integrated BIRT into their product. Usually, the application (in this case AiM) would be issuing the URL from their product. Have you tried contacting AssetWorks Support to find out if that is possible?

We have exactly the same problem.

Any way to hard-code the .xls or .xlsx output in the BIRT template? Changing this in the software calling BIRT would take ages...

No, it's the function of the application (AiM) to call the rendering format. Again, I'm not sure how BIRT was integrated with AiM, but there might be a configuration file, .JS, .JSP, or some other file that controls the URL of the output format. Have you contacted their Support yet to ask? Maybe they have a workaround, or an enhancement request in the works?
